IPV4 consists of four numbers separated by a dot. Each number can range from 0 to 255, in decimal form. Still, as the computers do not understand decimal numbers, this is converted to a binary form, which is understandable.

Since each number is represented by a group of 8 binary digits of either 1’s1’s or 0’s0’s, the whole IPV4 address is represented by a sequence of 32 bits. So, IPV4 is a 32-bit address.IPV4 can accommodate nearly 4 billion addresses, but considering the number of smartphones or internet devices each person owns these days, it might be a shortage.

Slowly we are moving to adapt IPV6 addresses as it provides a 128-bit address in comparison, hence can accommodate far more addresses, which would be enough even for future generations.

Classification of IP addresses:

There are two types of IP addresses, dynamic IP addresses, and static IP addresses.

Static IP addresses never change, which means that they serve as permanent IPs and allow remote computers to contact each other through a secure and straightforward path.

Static IPs carry information about that computer’s internet service provider and the continent, nation, and city where that computer is located.

On the other hand, dynamic IP addresses are a temporary IP address which is assigned each time a computer joins the internet. Generally, they are borrowed from a pool of IPs that is shared by a computer network.

IP rotation is a systematic mechanism in which an administrator or ISP (Internet Service Provider) distributes allocated IPs to the correct devices randomly or in a configurable way.

A user is given an IP address from a pool of IPs when a user connects to her internet service provider. Her internet connection usually stays with the IP address assigned to her until a disconnection takes place.   • Rotation of Burst IPs: IP addresses are rotated as per the number of connections defined. For instance, if 11 connections are initiated, the 12th will originate from a different IP address.
