What do the Car’s Warning lights mean? if you have a car you must know

Many drivers are unaware of the meaning of the lights that are sometimes lit in the instrument cluster. They are witnesses of colors, whose meaning is well explained in the vehicle manual and which alerts us to the mechanical incidents that occur in the car.

In this article, we show you which are the most common luminous witnesses and what the car’s warning lights mean? although for a better understanding it is advisable to look in the corresponding manual to have more information.

These witnesses are usually grouped in three colors, green, yellow and red, and each color corresponds to a category: information, warning, and alarm, respectively.

Exhaust gas control

Being yellow, you know that this is a slight problem, but we must go to a workshop as soon as possible because there is a fault in the exhaust gas control system. The engine is in emergency mode so we will notice a loss of power. It can also indicate that there is a fault in the injection, ignition or exhaust systems. If the light flashes, stop moving and notify the crane so that you can get closer to the nearest workshop.

Brake warning light

This red light indicates that we have forgotten to deactivate the handbrake correctly. In some vehicles, the warning light is accompanied by an acoustic alarm. If you have correctly removed the brake and the light is still on, the liquid level may be insufficient or the sensor may have failed. If you have brake fluid left, you must tighten the pedal more firmly in order to brake and, as soon as possible, fill the circuit.

Temperature increase

When the temperature warning light comes on it means that the engine has overheated excessively, probably due to the absence of coolant. The first thing to do in this case is to stop the vehicle and, when the engine has cooled, check the level of the liquid to fill it up if necessary.

Oil level

If the red warning light of the oil level lights up, we must stop the vehicle immediately. In this situation, if the engine is still running, it can cause serious damage that will result in a very expensive repair. The oil is vital to lubricate the engine and the indicator usually indicates that the level is insufficient or that there is a failure in the pressure. Advise the crane to assist you and move the car to your workshop.

Battery warning

If the battery warning light comes on while driving, the warning indicates that the battery is not charging properly. If it turns on when we turn off the engine, then it is most likely that the alternator does not work well and the battery can be discharged. If it does not light up just before starting, when we activate the contact, then the problem is that the battery has lost its properties and we should proceed to replace it (the estimated life of the batteries is four years).

Tire pressure

The most current cars incorporate this token to indicate if a tire needs more pressure. It is convenient to reset the system every time you inflate or check the pressure of the tires to work properly. When the warning light is blinking it is due to a fault in the tire pressure control, so if the pressures are correct, then an Official Service should be taken to check the system.

If the ABS warning light appears on the instrument panel, it means that the anti-lock system during braking is not working properly. If you are in this situation, you can circulate taking into account that when braking you must touch the pedal with a lot of tact so that the wheels do not lock. Go to the workshop when you can to solve the problem and be able to circulate safely.
