Oppo Reno 2Z Review – Complete Guide

Oppo has recently launched its three new Reno 2 devices. Although they all are having similar design and have similar features, Reno 2Z is a full package. With quad-camera setup, Helio P90 chipset under the hood, 6.5-inches AMOLED display with no notch, and high-capacity 4,000 mAh battery, this Reno 2Z device comes at around thirty grand price tag. So, is it a worthy buy?

Let’s check it out in the Oppo Reno 2Z review below:

Design and Display

All the new Reno 2 smartphones have got similar design and it is a hard time distinguishing between them. The new Oppo Reno 2Z has thin bezels on the front- all display devices. Although, the bottom bezel is a bit thicker. On the front, there is a 6.5-inches AMOLED display which is brilliantly bright and sharp. The front panel holds an optical in-display fingerprint scanner to unlock the device with your fingerprint. The brand has gone for a pop-up camera module which looks like the shark fine module of other Oppo Reno devices. The pop-up camera module is illuminated and looks like Redmi K20 Pro.

The new Oppo Reno 2Z comes in two color variants: Luminous Black and Sky White.

On the right edge of the device, there ks a power button while the volume rockers are on the left. The buttons are placed on the center of the sides for the convenient reach of the users. At the bottom, the Oppo Reno 2Z houses a USB Type-C port, microphone, speaker grille, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. On the top, you get to see a pop-up selfie camera and the secondary microphone. On the back panel, this device is housing a quad-camera setup.

Coming to the display, the Oppo Reno 2Z is packing a 6.5-inch full-HD+ (1080×2340 pixels) AMOLED display. No notch and all display give this phone a screen-to-body ratio of 91.1 percent. The color comes out vivid and bright. The viewing angles are equally good. In the sunshine bright environment, the display does get bright and the content is visible.

Under the hood, the Oppo Reno 2Z has the MediaTek Helio P90 SoC. It is not a very common chipset and the Reno 2Z is one of the fewest devices packing it. This new P90 chipset has six ARM Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 2GHz and a pair of Cortex-A75 cores clocked at 2.2GHz. The chipset is coupled with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Although, you can expand the storage using a microSD card. The device performs well and leaves no signs of lags behind. When it comes to multitasking, the device works smooth as a breeze.

The new Oppo Reno 2Z runs Android 9 Pie out of the box coupled with Colour OS 6.1 custom skin.

Talking about cameras, the Reno 2Z has a quad-camera rear setup which includes a 48-megapixel primary sensor with an f/1.7 aperture, an 8-megapixel wide-angle camera with an f/2.2 aperture and a 119-degree field of view, a 2-megapixel monochrome sensor, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. There is no telephoto sensor on the back panel. On the front, you get a pop-up module which is a 16-megapixel camera. The camera sensors capture the images very well. They come out bright, sharp, and very well-detailed.

Reno 2Z enables HDR automatically for bright environments and scenes. The photos came out well-detailed from the primary main sensor but the wide-angle camera captures fewer details compared to the main one. At the price of around thirty grands, this phone might not be the best camera performer but is surely great to use.

Battery Life

The Oppo Reno 2Z has high-capacity 4,000mAh battery which can last up to a day and a half with casual usage. In the HD video loop test, this Oppo’s phone lasts up for around 16 hours. Using for some web browsing, taking some pics from the camera, and also getting hands-on PUBG can make this device last for more than a day. The bundled 20W charger can fuel the device up to 5p percent in just half an hour. In an hour, it can charge the device till 85 number and a full charge will take 1 hour and 15 minutes.  Final Verdict

The new Oppo Reno 2Z is a very well-designed device and houses a quad-camera setup. Coming from the Reno 2 series, Reno 2Z is an exciting package. The device is powered by the MediaTek Helio P90 SoC and is coupled with 8 gigs of RAM. The device has ColorOS custom skin which will add some more features in the device and users might find them useful. But, how to get over bloatware? Reno 2Z has great photo-capturing abilities. But, the Helio P90 is not the chipset which a user expect at this price.

Reno 2Z’s competitors are devices like Redmi K20 Pro, One plus 7, and Asus 6Z and all of them are better than this one in some way or another. If you are looking for a better performer, K20 Pro is a better choice. Go a bit higher on price around 31-32k, One plus 7 beats every other smartphone.
