The administration of President Donald Trump wants to replace the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (CFA) with an agreement that will reliably protect the US and its main allies in Europe from any hostile actions by Iran, and not only from the threat of using nuclear weapons or ballistic missiles. With such a statement, US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo spoke on Fox News on Sunday.
“The well-being achieved in Iran as a result of the implementation of the SVAP became the engine of Iran’s hostile activity, fueled the Corps of the” Islamic Revolutionary Guards “(IRGC, the elite component of the Iranian Armed Forces – TASS comment), provided resources for its work in Syria and Iraq.
Trump [from a nuclear deal] is aimed at depriving them of this welfare, as well as resources that allow continuing hostile behavior, “Pompeo explained.
He again assured that the US decision to withdraw from the SVPD “is not directed against Europeans”.
“During my short term as Secretary of State, I tried to correct the deal. We could not agree on this with our partners from the “European troika” (Germany, Great Britain, and France – TASS comment). I hope that during the coming days or weeks we will be able to agree on such a deal, which will actually work, in fact, to protect the world from the hostile behavior of Iran, not only from its nuclear program and missiles, “Pompeo stressed.
US President Donald Trump on May 8 announced the withdrawal of Washington from the agreement on the Iranian nuclear program – a deal that imposed restrictions on Tehran ‘s nuclear activities in exchange for lifting the relevant sanctions of the UN Security Council and unilateral restrictive measures introduced earlier by the US and the EU. As stated by the head of the US administration, the Joint Comprehensive Action Plan (VCPR) left Iran with the opportunity to create a nuclear bomb, bypassing restrictions. Trump promised not only to return the old ones but also to introduce new sanctions if Teheran decides to implement its “nuclear ambitions”. At the same time, he spoke in favor of concluding a new agreement.
