The Honda Civic Type R Review
The new Honda Civic Type R won the ‘Best Performance Car’ category in the Women’s World Automotive Challenge of the Year. This international prize institution is unique, as the jury consists only of female representatives.
The last distinction of Civic Type R comes in addition to a series of awards already won in 2017, the first and the best in ‘Best Hot Hatch’ by Auto Express in June and ‘Best Import Compact Sports Car’ by the magazine Sports Auto last month.
With common key features with the Civic hatchback, the new Type R has been designed from the start to offer the most enjoyable driving experience in the hot-hatch category – both on the road and on the track. The two-stroke VTEC TURBO engine, which was the heart of the award-winning previous generation Type R, has been optimized and modified and now delivers 320 hp, enough to accelerate the vehicle from 0 to 100 km / h to 5.7 ” a top speed of 272 km / h.
This year’s winners of the Women’s World Car of the Year were judged by the vote of 25 female authors from 20 different countries. The initial list included 420 cars that quickly declined to 60 in the first place. There was a secret ballot where the winners of each category were judged.
“Women make up more than half of the buyers of new cars and have a significant influence on the purchasing decisions, so I think it’s a great achievement that recognizes the Civic Type R,” said Philip Ross, vice president of Honda Motor Europe. “The new Type R has exciting performance, but at the same time it remains the most practical and versatile high-performance hatchback – a critical factor in the jury’s decision.”
Production of the new Civic Type R began in the summer of 2017 at the Honda of the UK Manufacturing (HUM) plant at Swindon – the world’s 10th – generation Civic hatchback production hub. Type R is exported to Europe and other markets around the world, including Japan and the United States. His arrival in North America will mark the first time that a Type R with the Honda brand will be officially sold there.
