According to bitcoinist.com, Danish ice hockey team Rungsted Seier Capital has signed a three-year sponsorship deal with Bitcoin Suisse. He offered to pay the players with the cryptocurrency

Nikolaj Rosenthal, a senior player from the club, accepted Bitcoin’s offer and apparently became the first professional sportsman to receive his payouts with Bitcoin.

Within the scope of the sponsorship agreement, which will be valid from December 27th, all the players will have the chance to receive payments with Bitcoin. The name of the place where the team plays matches will change to Bitcoin Arena. Meanwhile, the club will also organize competitions for fans to win Bitcoin in order to celebrate the partnership.

According to the news, it is not illegal to pay sportsmen to Bitcoin. Several experts have indicated that other sports clubs might make such a decision in the future.
